Georgia teen arrested on meth and marijuana drug charges

Facing any kind of felony charge in Georgia can be one of the most traumatic experiences a person ever faces. Even for non-violent offenses, the penalties can be severe for individuals, including those accused of drug charges, especially those in possession of a quantity that suggests the intent to distribute. When an alleged suspect is a teenager, he or she can be particularly consumed by thoughts of long-term incarceration and what this could mean for his or her future.

A recent article details the arrest of a 19-year-old man who was charged with possession with an intent to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana. The arrest occurred on June 3 at around 4:30 p.m. in Canton. According to reports, police stopped a car full of people and allegedly smelled marijuana.

After searching the vehicle, police allegedly found 20 grams of methamphetamine and around half a pound of marijuana. Additionally, they claim that they found $1,800 in cash. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

Those accused of similar crimes in Georgia want to ensure that their rights are protected, and that they are treated fairly by authorities and the legal system throughout the arrest and the criminal proceedings. Those accused of these kinds of crimes may want to seek legal representation from attorneys who have experience in criminal law and defending in cases involving drug charges. An attorney who practices in this area of law will be in the best position to understand local, state and national laws that could affect the outcome of a trial.
