Georgia woman accused of insurance fraud faces felony charges

A woman in Georgia was recently arrested following an investigation into a workers' compensation fraud scheme. According to reports, this woman allegedly sold fake policies and pocketed the premiums. She has since been charged with felony fraud and is facing serious penalties as a result.

According to a local news outlet, authorities arrested a 52-year-old woman of Metter on April 4. She was then transferred to the Candler County Jail and charged with felony insurance fraud -- four counts. It has not been reported if bond has been set or paid in her case.

The accused was formerly licensed as an insurance agent and once owned the Quality Insurance Agency. It is unknown as to when her business closed or when her license expired. Authorities claim that, while unlicensed, she sold fake work comp policies and collected and kept -- for her personal use -- thousands of dollars in premiums from her clients.

The accusations in this case are serious and, according to Georgia laws, could have severe consequences for the accused if she is ultimately convicted. At this point she may feel that there is little she can do to fight the felony charges against her, but that simply is not true. A skilled criminal defense attorney may be able to help this woman by reviewing her case and questioning any evidence offered. In doing this, the accused will be able to make informed decisions and -- with the assistance of legal counsel  -- pursue a course of action that will focus on achieving the best outcome possible for her circumstances.
