Woman faces drunk driving and vehicular homicide charges

It was in March of this year when a multiple vehicle crash occurred on Georgia S.R. 140. Through months of investigation, authorities believe they have determined what happened and why. As a result, a woman now faces charges for drunk driving, vehicular homicide and other offenses in connection with the accident.

Reports indicate that the 44-year-old Georgia woman was heading west at approximately 7:30 p.m. on the day of the accident. At some point, her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a second vehicle. The impact pushed the second vehicle into the westbound lane where a third vehicle struck it. Meanwhile, the first vehicle continued moving after the initial impact and struck a fourth vehicle.

When all of the vehicles involved came to a rest, the woman now facing charges required hospital care for her injuries. The 21-year-old man in the second vehicle suffered fatal injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any injuries and neither did the three people occupying the fourth vehicle.

Authorities claim that the accused woman was not only drunk driving, but may have had other substances in her system at the time of the accident. The penalties she faces if convicted of vehicular homicide are severe. The woman has the right to challenge all of the charges against her, as would anyone else in a similar situation. In order to effectively do that and present an aggressive defense, it may be beneficial to enlist the help of a criminal defense attorney right away.
