This means that they can claim their alimony payments to reduce their taxable income which can put more money in their pockets. Those who file now or who already have been through the process will get to continue utilizing this benefit. Those who wait to file or finalize their divorces until next year will lose out, as Jan. 2019 is when this aspect of the new tax law will be implemented.
Everyone has their own reasons for when and why they wish to file for divorce. Whether it is done in January or later in the year, it does not matter. One just needs to feel ready to get it done.
