A Georgia woman has found herself in a whole lot of legal trouble for her attempt to collect financial support from her child’s father. While there is nothing wrong with wanting to enforce a child support order, there is a right way to go about doing it. The lesson here is simple, think about the long-term consequences before acting.
According to a news report, back in Feb. 2017, the woman posted a picture of her 2-year-old son bound by duck tape with a message to his father that was essentially telling him to pay up if he ever wanted to spend time with his son again. The mother claims it was a joke, but several individuals who saw the message did not view it as funny and called the police. The 27-year-old was promptly arrested and jailed for child cruelty.
Immediately following her arrest, the accused began attending parenting classes and lost custody of her son for approximately six months. Just recently she chose to enter a guilty plea in court. She has been sentenced to probation for five years, was ordered to pay a fine of $500 and must continue attending parenting classes.
