Man Faces DUI Charges after Holiday Event

While the Fourth of July holiday is a time of celebration for most people across the United States, some individuals could face some negative repercussions from their celebrations that they have to deal with for a considerable amount of time. Often, people attend gatherings for fireworks shows, and at those gatherings, alcoholic beverages are commonly served. If a person drinks and then gets behind the wheel, a possible DUI charge could result.

It was recently reported that one man in Georgia found himself in this type of predicament after leaving a fireworks show. According to reports, authorities had set up a checkpoint in the area, and while conducting stops, the driver of a Jeep sped through the checkpoint. Authorities reportedly yelled at the driver to stop, but he allegedly continued driving. Officers stated that the vehicle did not have doors or windows and believed the driver could hear the command.

Officers later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. An officer claimed to have smelled alcohol, and the driver allegedly stated that he had had two beers at the fireworks celebration. Additional investigating by the officers purportedly yielded the following results:

  • The man’s blood alcohol concentration level was .125, which is over the legal limit.
  • There was a 4-year-old and a 9-year-old in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
  • The man was taken into custody on charges of DUI and child endangerment.

While the evidence provided in the report may seem cut and dry, there is always more to the story. For this reason, the man accused in this Georgia case may want to ensure that he understands his criminal defense options for addressing the DUI and other charges brought against him. Presenting his case in a meaningful way may allow him to reach a favorable outcome.
