Police in the Atlanta area recently arrested a young man on aggravated assault and other charges. They say he is responsible for shooting a man. The victim is reportedly his mom’s former boyfriend. If convicted, the penalties for this crime in the state of Georgia can be pretty severe.
Few details have been reported about this event. All that is known is a man was found with a gunshot wound in the area of Fairfield Place on Sunday, April 4. The victim, whose name has not been released to the press, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The accused is an 18-year-old male. He was picked up by police shortly after the shooting. His mother was with him and was interviewed by police before he was taken into custody. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm and aggravated battery.
As stated previously, the charges in this case are serious and carry significant penalties if the accused is ultimately convicted — and will only increase in severity if the victim fails to survive the shooting. The accused may be a teenager, but he is just old enough to be tried as an adult in the state of Georgia. This is a big deal and not something he will want to treat lightly. Thankfully, with the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, he can protect and defend himself as he fights for the best outcome possible.
